Sr. Staff Software Engineer - Eng (AI)

Location: Lowell, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid work with three days per week in the office required.

Salary: $145,600–$209,300 per year, plus potential performance-based bonus and restricted stock unit awards.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable Java web applications and platform services for enterprise SaaS products.
• Build front-end and server-side components, RESTful APIs, microservices, and core infrastructure services.
• Integrate LLMs, RAG, semantic search, prompt orchestration, tool calling, and intelligent workflow automation.
• Design and optimize AI agents and evaluate emerging AI technologies for engineering and customer solutions.
• Resolve complex issues across applications, APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, and third-party integrations.
• Review code, mentor engineers, collaborate with product, UX, QA, DevOps, and security teams, and improve performance, reliability, observability, and security.

Requirements

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of hands-on experience developing enterprise Java web applications.
• Strong experience with Java, J2EE, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Hibernate/JPA, React, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, REST APIs, microservices, SQL, and MVC architecture.
• Experience with SQL stored procedures, functions, triggers, views, query optimization, TDD, automated testing, CI/CD, and Agile development.
• Experience integrating LLMs and implementing RAG, vector databases, embeddings, prompt engineering, MCP, tool calling, and AI orchestration frameworks.
• Ability to work in the Lowell office three days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift, and infrastructure as code.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines and observability solutions with tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, or OpenTelemetry.
• Experience with Bash, Python, PowerShell, infrastructure automation, distributed-system troubleshooting, and operational excellence.
