Agentic Forward Deployed Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote within the United States; McLean, Virginia, and Arlington, Virginia are listed as role locations. Travel up to 10% may be required, including work at Booz Allen or customer facilities.

Salary: $99,000–$225,000 annualized USD

What you will do

• Embed with client teams to document workflows, systems, data flows, decision points, and exception paths.
• Create operating maps and automation roadmaps that determine where deterministic software, agent judgment, and human approvals should be used.
• Design, build, and deploy AI agents that reason, plan, and act across enterprise tools, APIs, and data sources.
• Develop evaluation frameworks, golden datasets, regression tests, monitoring, metrics, and audit trails for production AI systems.
• Scale agents from shadow mode to increasing autonomy and production while measuring hours saved, risk reduction, and improved outcomes.
• Drive adoption through workforce training, change management, reusable playbooks, and shared engineering capabilities.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, machine learning engineering, technical advising, or solutions engineering.
• 4+ years of experience building generative or agentic AI applications, including LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, or multi-agent orchestration.
• Production experience deploying LLM-powered systems or AI agents, including evaluation, monitoring, and post-launch iteration.
• Production coding experience with Python or TypeScript and experience integrating enterprise systems such as ERP, CRM, ITSM, or knowledge repositories.
• Experience working with customers or business stakeholders on requirements, process mapping, and technology adoption.
• Secret clearance and a bachelor’s degree are required.

Nice to have

• Experience in Department of War or Department of the Army environments.
• Experience with graph-based planners, tool-calling agents, agent SDKs, BPMN, value-stream mapping, or forward-deployed engineering.
• Experience with organizational change management, major cloud platforms, Kubernetes, or infrastructure as code.
• Experience quantifying automation impact, plus a master’s degree or Agile/cloud certification.
