Senior Software Engineer, Ground Systems (Space Systems)

Location: Greater Seattle Area, United States

Base pay range: $181,626–$254,275.35 for Colorado applicants; $197,529–$276,539.55 for Virginia and Washington applicants. Other site ranges may differ.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain user-services software for Delay Tolerant Networking, customer data routing, and payload-data APIs.
• Build ground-system interfaces connecting Mars relay users, the relay network, and Earth-based services.
• Translate mission requirements into robust software designs with systems engineers and mission partners.
• Develop automated and integration tests, tune performance, and support reliable operation across deep-space light-time delays.
• Implement CCSDS and DTN Bundle Protocol interfaces and collaborate with NASA, mission partners, and Mars user teams.
• Document architecture and operational procedures, support deployment and handoff to operations, and mentor peers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of software development experience with production code in Python, Java, C++, or similar languages.
• Experience developing external-facing APIs, using AWS or Azure, and applying DevSecOps practices.
• Experience with space mission ground systems, spacecraft operations, or a related domain, plus familiarity with CCSDS, DTN, or Bundle Protocol.
• Familiarity with Agile development and strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted U.S. refugee or asylee.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in a relevant field.
• Experience with NASA civil space programs, U.S. Government missions, DTN architectures, or Mars relay planning systems.
• Experience with spacecraft subsystem or onboard flight software and DOORS Next Generation.
