Director of Regulatory Compliance (Insurance)

Location: Saint Paul, Minnesota campus; hybrid arrangement with three office days per week for associates within a 90-minute commuting distance

Salary: $146,000–$272,400 base pay

What you will do

• Lead the enterprise regulatory compliance program and approximately 20 associates, including compliance sub-team leaders.
• Oversee compliance activities covering life insurance and annuity administration, securities-related activities, complaints, suitability and replacements, unclaimed property, monitoring, and oversight.
• Partner with business lines and Operations to identify regulatory risks and develop practical risk-management approaches.
• Evaluate and evolve the regulatory compliance operating model, clarifying responsibilities, accountabilities, and ways of working.
• Strengthen proactive risk identification, assessment, monitoring, quantification, reporting, and escalation.
• Develop policies, training, tools, monitoring practices, and future compliance leaders while anticipating regulatory developments.

Requirements

• 15+ years of relevant experience in compliance, risk, legal, or regulatory functions.
• Significant experience in the insurance industry and 5+ years of leadership experience.
• Experience leading leaders, developing high-performing teams, and influencing senior stakeholders across business areas.
• Experience navigating complex regulatory requirements and providing practical, business-oriented compliance guidance.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills with business partners and compliance professionals.
• Ability to work in the hybrid arrangement at the Saint Paul campus when within commuting distance.

Nice to have

• Experience leading compliance program enhancements or transformation in an insurance organization.
• Experience with organizational redesign or compliance operating-model changes.
• Experience managing regulatory examinations and interactions with regulators.
• Familiarity with individual insurance, employer voluntary benefits, specialty lines insurance, and securities-related activities.
• Juris Doctor degree.
