Senior Software Developer (Search AI)

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Salary: CAD 107,000–157,300 per year base salary

What you will do

• Design, build, maintain, and operate complex search infrastructure and streaming service modules.
• Deploy and run multi-region services on AWS using ECS, EC2, S3, DynamoDB, SQS, ElastiCache/Redis, Lambda, and CloudFront.
• Improve performance and resiliency through caching, eviction, retry, dead-letter recovery, memory-mapped or pager-based data access, and scaling strategies.
• Troubleshoot production issues, participate in incident response, and drive reliability improvements.
• Contribute to architecture, technical planning, roadmap discussions, code reviews, knowledge sharing, and mentoring.
• Identify automation and productivity improvements, including thoughtful use of AI-assisted development tools.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience building and operating production services.
• Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js, or strong backend engineering experience with the ability to ramp up on Node.js.
• Hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure, especially ECS, EC2, Bedrock, SageMaker, OpenSearch, and multi-environment deployment.
• Strong algorithms, mathematics, concurrency, object-oriented or functional design, troubleshooting, and independent problem-solving skills.
• Experience with high-traffic distributed systems, REST or WebSocket APIs, JSON or Protobuf, observability, and Agile development.

Nice to have

• Experience with information retrieval and Lucene, Elasticsearch, or OpenSearch.
• Exposure to vector databases, ML infrastructure, knowledge graphs, or graph databases.
• Experience with Terraform or CloudFormation, Jenkins or Harness, and observability tools such as Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, or Splunk.
• Experience improving reliability, security, and compliance for complex cloud systems at scale.
