Principal Microsoft Data & AI Engineer

Location: Hybrid, 3 days onsite and 2 days remote. Minneapolis, MN is strongly preferred; additional locations are Chandler, AZ, Irving, TX, and Charlotte, NC.

hirify.global is presenting a principal-level data and AI engineering role supporting enterprise analytics and decision-making.

What you will do

• Design, build, test, deploy, and support scalable data engineering and integration solutions using Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Fabric.
• Develop reusable ETL/ELT pipelines and governed analytical data stores, semantic models, and data products.
• Write and optimize advanced SQL, including complex queries, stored procedures, views, transformations, and performance-tuned processing routines.
• Integrate structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data from databases, Excel, files, APIs, reports, email-delivered files, and authorized web sources.
• Profile data, resolve quality issues, implement validation and monitoring controls, and maintain traceability and reconciliation.
• Use and validate approved generative AI tools for SQL and code development, analysis, documentation, testing, troubleshooting, and prompt-driven workflows.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in data engineering, database engineering, analytics engineering, data integration, or a related discipline.
• Advanced hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, complex SQL development, ETL/ELT pipelines, and enterprise data modeling.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric or a comparable modern cloud data platform, including Lakehouse and Warehouse concepts.
• Knowledge of relational, dimensional, semantic, and analytical modeling, Medallion methodology, data profiling, validation, metadata, and data quality management.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Power Query, PivotTables, data models, advanced formulas, and external data connections.
• Experience with source control, testing, code review, release management, production support, and communication with business and executive stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with Azure Databricks, planned as a future platform with access expected in Q1 2027.
• Experience with Microsoft 365 Copilot, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Devin, or other enterprise-approved LLM tools.
