Senior Software Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Hybrid role based in Mountain View, San Francisco, or Pittsburgh, United States

Salary: $213,000–$263,000 USD annually, plus eligibility for an annual bonus, equity incentive plan, and company benefits.

Waymo develops autonomous driving technology and the Waymo Driver for fully autonomous ride-hail services and other vehicle platforms.

What you will do

• Develop behavior for autonomous vehicles that is safe, smooth, and predictable for other road users.
• Handle complex driving situations such as merging, negotiating narrow roads, and other socially aware interactions.
• Frame open-ended real-world driving problems as well-defined engineering problems.
• Build tools, algorithms, and evaluation mechanisms for autonomous driving systems.
• Scale solutions to Google-sized data pipelines and refine them for real-time operation on vehicles.
• Collaborate with software, hardware, and systems engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of general software engineering experience.
• Strong C++ programming skills and experience writing efficient code.
• Experience collaborating across different teams.
• Experience with motion planning or related robotics problems is preferred.
• Experience building or evaluating machine-learning-based systems is preferred.

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a similar technical field.
• Experience solving motion planning or related robotics problems.
• Experience building or evaluating machine-learning-based systems.
