Program Manager (Battery Materials)

Location: Alameda, California, United States; onsite. The role includes visits to laboratory and manufacturing environments and requires wearing PPE, including safety glasses, lab coats, and steel-toe shoes.

Salary: $168,000–$212,000 annual base pay, plus potential benefits, perks, equity, and bonuses.

What you will do

• Lead integrated programs connecting battery R&D, equipment development, manufacturing operations, capital projects, product, and commercial teams.
• Design and communicate workflows for complex decisions while maintaining integrated databases and governance tools as a single source of truth.
• Sequence R&D breakthroughs, manufacturing scale-up projects, and commercial milestones against strategic and financial targets.
• Own program health reporting, risk assessments, roadblock resolution, and executive communication with sponsors and steering teams.
• Lead cross-functional prioritization and high-stakes decisions such as project scoping and partner selection.
• Manage cross-program dependencies and mitigate risks before they affect delivery timelines.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in battery technology, automotive, chemical processing, semiconductors, oil and gas, or a similarly complex hardware-and-process industry.
• 5+ years leading technical or business programs integrating R&D, manufacturing scale-up, and commercial execution.
• Proven experience transferring novel technologies or products from R&D into high-volume manufacturing.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or physical science.
• Deep expertise in program and project management, including scheduling, budgeting, financial analysis, risk management, decision quality, and resource allocation.
• Strong communication, strategic influence, matrix leadership, and ambiguity-management skills, with knowledge of Stage-Gate, Agile, and Waterfall methodologies.
