Resident Engineer (Transit)

Location: Washington, USA; site-based work on transit construction projects

Salary: $125,000–$165,000 per year ($60–$79 per hour)

What you will do

• Administer assigned construction contracts and enforce plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
• Coordinate inspection coverage across work fronts and shifts and direct inspection staff.
• Review submittals, requests for information, shop drawings, schedules, progress quantities, and payment recommendations.
• Analyze change requests, potential change orders, and claims and prepare cost and schedule assessments.
• Oversee quality assurance, materials testing, nonconformance resolution, site safety, and incident follow-up.
• Coordinate contractors, designers, utilities, railroads, agencies, and other stakeholders through testing, commissioning, punch list, and closeout.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, construction engineering, engineering technology, architecture, or a related field.
• 10+ years of construction management, resident engineering, or construction engineering and inspection experience on large, complex heavy-civil infrastructure projects valued above $500 million.
• Experience with field contract administration, submittals, requests for information, change management, progress payments, and formal contract communications.
• Experience coordinating inspection teams and providing owner’s representative construction management services for a major transit or DOT agency.
• Knowledge of construction methods, contract administration, quality assurance, field documentation, and project or construction management software such as Primavera P6, MS Project, Unifier, or Kahua.
• Ability to pass a background check and complete the required site safety orientation before working on the project site.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree and active certifications or licenses such as PE, CCM, or PMP.
• Experience with light rail, commuter rail, guideway, stations, trackwork, rail systems, underground stations, or tunneling.
• Experience on programs valued at $1 billion or more and transportation megaprograms exceeding $10 billion.
• Experience with Primavera P6 time impact analysis, Power BI, Oracle Cloud Analytics, or similar KPI reporting tools.
