Experienced Construction Inspector

Location: Leawood, Kansas, United States; field-based work across public infrastructure projects

Starting rate: $29.86–$36.58 per hour, depending on qualifications

Public Works organization delivering capital improvement and infrastructure projects for the Leawood community.

What you will do

• Inspect streets, curbs, sidewalks, storm sewers, right-of-way improvements, and other public infrastructure for compliance with approved plans, specifications, City standards, and construction practices.
• Verify sidewalk, ramp, and driveway construction dimensions, alignment, slopes, and subgrade against ADA standards and contract requirements.
• Maintain daily inspection records, prepare reports, coordinate materials testing, measure quantities, and calculate project pay estimates.
• Verify right-of-way permits, restoration work, contractor information, and the location of City utilities.
• Oversee erosion and traffic control installations and conduct final inspections before bond expiration.
• Assist engineers and right-of-way staff with easements and property-owner coordination, as well as snow removal and emergency activities.

Requirements

• At least six years of construction industry and inspection or field experience, or an associate degree in construction management or a related field plus four years of related experience.
• Experience with multifaceted construction projects and the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
• Strong communication, relationship-building, organizational, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
• Microsoft Office Suite experience.
• Required certifications and training must be held or achieved within the timeframe set by the Director of Public Works, including ABC’s of BMPs, erosion and sediment control, KDOT inspection courses, ACI concrete testing, IMSA work-zone traffic control, and NHI pipe installation inspection training.
• Typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with schedule adjustments possible for project deadlines or contractors.

Nice to have

• Construction inspection experience in a municipality or public works department.
• Completed relevant BMP, erosion and sediment control, IMSA, KDOT, ACI, or NHI training and certifications.
