TL;DR
Thermofluids Analyst (Aerospace): Modeling and simulating internal thermodynamics and fluid mechanics for Electron and Neutron launch vehicles with an accent on propellant management, thermal design, CFD, and test-data analysis. Focus on designing pressurization and RCS systems, simulating heat transfer and fluid behavior, and demonstrating engineering margins through numerical and physical testing.

Location: Auckland, New Zealand; office-based role

Company

hirify.global is an end-to-end space company developing rockets, spacecraft, propulsion systems, and other critical spaceflight subsystems.

What you will do

  • Model propellant delivery and management, including temperatures, stratification, cavitation margins, transients, slosh, settling, residuals, and in-space thermodynamics.
  • Design and analyze tank pressurization and reaction control systems, including pressurant budgets, autogenous system sizing, nitrogen budgets, thrusters, valves, and lines.
  • Develop system thermal designs for ground, flight, and in-space operations, covering thermal protection, insulation, compartment thermals, and component models.
  • Perform CFD and heat-transfer simulations for compressible and incompressible flow, conduction, convection, and radiation.
  • Model HVAC and cavity conditioning and support payload integration and customer interface technical activities.
  • Collaborate with design and test engineers to define test requirements, analyze ground and flight data, detect out-of-family results, and demonstrate positive margins.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a similar field.
  • At least 1 year of industry experience, ideally in aerospace, automotive, or marine industries.
  • Expertise with one or more CFD packages: Fluent, CFX, or STAR-CCM+.
  • Engineering programming experience, especially with Python and packages such as NumPy, pandas, SciPy, and Matplotlib.
  • Physics- and first-principles-based problem-solving approach.
  • Ability to work to changing deadlines in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.

Nice to have

  • Experience with NX CAD and Teamcenter or comparable packages for model interrogation and defeaturing.
  • Experience selecting sensors and processing or interpreting data from accelerometers, strain gauges, and thermocouples.
  • Experience with thermal modeling packages such as Thermal Desktop, THERMICA, or NX SST.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work on Electron and Neutron launch vehicles and real spaceflight hardware.
  • Collaborative, hands-on environment focused on teamwork, innovation, and delivering under pressure.
  • Background and nationality checks are conducted before employment offers for New Zealand roles.
  • New Zealand roles require eligibility to access equipment and data regulated under U.S. ITAR regulations.
  • Eligibility may depend on citizenship of Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, the European Union, or a NATO member country, subject to ITAR restrictions.
