Patient Access Specialist - PRN (Healthcare)

Location: Onsite at HSHS-St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois; applicants must reside in and be authorized to work in the United States.

Salary: $17.00–$18.15 per hour, based on experience.

What you will do

• Perform admitting and pre-registration duties for hospital patients.
• Assign accurate medical record numbers, collect demographic and insurance information, process physician orders, and provide patient instructions.
• Verify insurance eligibility, select plan codes, enter benefit data, and support point-of-service collections and clean claims.
• Operate the hospital telephone switchboard and deliver compassionate customer service.
• Conduct account audits, correct documentation issues, and provide reporting data to Patient Access leadership.
• Explain consent, Medicare, Tricare, observation, and other patient forms; obtain signatures and distribute required documents.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of customer service experience.
• Must reside in and be authorized to work in the United States.
• Inquisitive approach and openness to innovation, including AI-enabled process improvements.
• CRCR certification required within 6 months of hire; certification is company-paid.
