Principal AI Architect

Location: Hybrid in New York City, United States

Salary: $270,000–$330,000 total annual compensation, including base salary and bonus

What you will do

• Own the system design for production-scale agentic AI capabilities, including orchestration, context, state, memory, tool boundaries, and reliability patterns.
• Create technical design reviews, design documents, standards, and decision records that guide architectural direction across engineering teams.
• Prototype architectural decisions before teams adopt them at scale.
• Partner with Data Science to integrate agent and model work with APIs, event streaming, storage, and other platform services.
• Review engineering architecture and risk, build consensus across teams, and communicate trade-offs to executives and customers.
• Mentor senior and staff engineers and help drive AI-assisted and agentic development across the organization.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including significant experience as a senior, staff, or principal architect or technical lead.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, service boundaries, consistency models, event-driven architecture, API design, and reliable operation at scale.
• Production experience with agentic or LLM-powered systems, including agent loops, context engineering, MCP, tool or function calling, RAG, memory and state management, reliability, and guardrails.
• Working knowledge of data modeling, pipeline design, and streaming versus batch processing.
• Strong technical writing, architecture review, mentorship, influence without authority, and executive and customer communication skills.
• Hybrid work in New York City is required; immigration sponsorship is not provided.

Nice to have

• Experience with multi-agent orchestration, supervisor and sub-agent architectures, or agent handoffs.
• Experience with Node.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Kafka, AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm, or ArgoCD.
• Experience adopting AI-assisted or agentic development across an engineering organization.
• Experience partnering with Data Science or ML teams and cybersecurity industry experience.
