Principal Software Engineer (AI)

Salary: $200,000–$220,000 per year

What you will do

• Set architectural direction and engineering standards across web, mobile, backend, desktop, Microsoft 365, and AI-powered product surfaces.
• Design and build cloud-native applications, microservices, integrations, and customer-facing experiences at enterprise scale.
• Establish patterns for AI assistants, summarization, extraction, and intelligent search within document workflows.
• Lead technical design for Microsoft 365 integrations, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, co-authoring, and related experiences.
• Drive platform modernization, migration strategies, performance, reliability, security, and correctness across distributed workflows.
• Mentor senior and staff engineers, lead design and code reviews, and align Engineering, Product, Design, Platform, and AI teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including work at Staff level or above.
• Experience setting architecture and technical direction across multiple products, systems, or engineering teams.
• Deep expertise in system design, distributed systems, cloud applications, microservices, and enterprise integrations.
• Strong full-stack experience with C#, .NET, React, and TypeScript, plus AWS, Azure, or comparable cloud technologies.
• Experience leading cross-team initiatives, mentoring senior engineers, translating ambiguity into architecture, and writing technical design documents.

Nice to have

• Experience shipping AI-native product experiences.
• Experience with multi-tenant enterprise platforms, strict security, compliance, or data residency requirements.
• Microsoft 365 extensibility experience, including Office add-ins, Microsoft Graph, or co-authoring technologies.
• Experience modernizing legacy applications and managing complex customer migrations.
• Experience in legal technology, professional-services SaaS, or regulated enterprise software.
