Principal Data Scientist (Healthcare AI)

Location: Hybrid role in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, with 3 days per week in the office

What you will do

• Build, maintain, and scale AI-powered tooling for cohort generation, feasibility analysis, code review, and recurring analytics.
• Design automated and agentic data quality systems that work across schemas, sites, and data refreshes.
• Define testing, validation, monitoring, provenance, and human-review standards for trustworthy AI-enabled workflows.
• Partner with Engineering on pipeline integration, orchestration, monitoring, and data quality infrastructure.
• Work with Product, Medical, Clinical Operations, and Commercial teams to gather requirements and drive adoption.
• Provide technical oversight, code review, mentorship, documentation, and training for data scientists.

Requirements

• MS or PhD in data science, statistics, computer science, computational biology, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience working directly with real-world healthcare data, including EHR, claims, or registry data.
• Track record of building and owning internal tools, platforms, or analytic products through multiple versions.
• Strong Python and SQL programming skills, with experience in a cloud data warehouse such as Snowflake.
• End-to-end ownership of a data quality, testing, or observability system.
• Practical experience building and evaluating LLM-based systems beyond prototyping, including prompt and workflow design.

• Interest in growing into technical leadership through mentoring and review of other data scientists.
• Experience working with raw, messy, and poorly documented source data.
