Senior AI Engineer (Healthcare AI)

What you will do

• Set technical direction for AI projects and translate product, customer, and business priorities into architecture and implementation plans.
• Drive deployment of state-of-the-art AI models and systems for Abacus Agents, MCP, SQL agents, RAG agents, and related intelligence features.
• Develop data collection, fine-tuning, LLM, preprocessing, feature engineering, training, hyperparameter tuning, evaluation, and self-healing pipeline capabilities.
• Build scalable reusable backend systems for GenAI products with logging, telemetry, and evaluation harnesses.
• Guide, review, mentor, and coach engineers while remaining hands-on with system design, coding, architecture, and technical decisions.
• Coordinate with data quality, platform, DevOps, product, business, and client stakeholders, including customer-facing technical discussions and incident-related delivery work.

Requirements

• 3+ years of ML/AI engineering experience in high-velocity, high-growth companies, or equivalent academic ML/AI research experience, plus 8+ years of overall software development experience.
• Experience leading software development teams or projects toward production-grade systems supporting real customers, including mentoring engineers, setting technical direction, and delegating effectively.
• Strong hands-on language modeling and GenAI experience covering generative and embedding techniques, modern model architectures, fine-tuning or pre-training datasets, evaluation benchmarks, RAG, SQL agents, and similar technologies.
• Strong hands-on experience in at least one of agents or agentic workflows, MCP, or RAG, with working exposure to all three.
• Proficiency in Python, TensorFlow or PyTorch, and scalable ML/AI architecture.
• Experience driving end-to-end model and system development from research and prototyping through deployment and monitoring.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals covering testing, code review, deployment best practices, QA, test automation, and Agile methodologies.
• Experience designing scalable distributed systems for data processing applications at the tens-to-hundreds-of-terabytes scale.
• Knowledge of cloud architecture, AI architecture, agents and agentic systems, MPP compute frameworks for Data+AI platforms, security, and MCP/API-based services.
• Ability to work with product management, project management, client delivery, and operations, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills and an interest in AI-driven user experiences.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant professional experience.

• Experience with Databricks and Mosaic AI Gateway.
• Experience with Snowflake.
• Familiarity with FHIR.
• Exposure to healthcare data.
• Prior experience as a tech lead, team lead, or people manager for engineering staff.
