TL;DR
Flight/Embedded Software Engineering Intern (Summer 2027) (Embedded Software/Aerospace): Developing embedded code for custom avionics hardware used in ground testing and spacecraft flight functions with an accent on low-level processor functions, communication interfaces, and physical process control. Focus on implementing closed-loop controls, automating avionics and propulsion testing, and writing reviewed software for manufacturing and flight.

Location: Onsite in Redondo Beach, California, for the duration of the 12-week internship

Compensation: $32.00 per hour; overtime pay may apply.

hirify.global Space develops in-space transportation vehicles and propulsion systems for orbital transport, payload deployment, and precision reentry.

What you will do

  • Develop embedded code on custom avionics hardware for ground-test and flight functions.
  • Implement low-level processor functions, peripheral controls, and communication interfaces.
  • Implement closed-loop control functions for physical processes.
  • Develop code for testing avionics, fluids, and propulsion equipment.
  • Write reviewed and tested software supporting manufacturing and flight operations.
  • Collaborate with avionics, propulsion, GNC, hardware, and software engineers.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience developing embedded microcontroller code for an extracurricular project, ideally using C, C++, Rust, or assembly.
  • Ability to communicate technical challenges, explain technical rationale, and resolve concerns.
  • Willingness and ability to work onsite in Redondo Beach, California, throughout the internship.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain the authorizations required under ITAR regulations.

Nice to have

  • Experience controlling physical devices such as motors, batteries, power supplies, DAQs, CNCs, 3D printers, RC cars, or radios.
  • Experience collaborating with mixed hardware and software engineering teams.
  • Experience in vehicle development involving cars, aircraft, rockets, satellites, drones, or boats.
  • Experience with version control, test cases, and software engineering best practices.
