TL;DR
Embedded Software Engineer Intern - Fall 2026 (Aerospace): Developing, testing, and debugging firmware, device drivers, and integration tools for missile systems with an accent on microcontrollers, flight hardware, and hardware-software integration. Focus on board bring-up, hardware-in-the-loop testing, debugging embedded systems, and validating real-world defense systems.

Location: Torrance, California, United States. U.S. Person status is required due to ITAR regulations. The role may also require access to classified information, restricted U.S. Government sites, systems, or information, along with applicable security clearance or government authorization.

What you will do

  • Develop, test, and debug low-level firmware for embedded systems and flight hardware.
  • Write and integrate device drivers for sensors, actuators, and missile subsystems.
  • Bring up new hardware and test boards while debugging electrical and software interfaces.
  • Collaborate with hardware, GNC, and flight test teams on system integration.
  • Participate in design reviews, hardware-in-the-loop tests, bench bring-up, and validation.
  • Document technical work and share lessons to improve future designs.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Be a rising junior, senior, or graduate student during the internship.
  • Strong C/C++ programming skills for embedded systems.
  • Experience with microcontrollers or SoCs and familiarity with bare-metal or RTOS environments.
  • Understanding of board bring-up and debugging fundamentals, plus familiarity with SPI, I2C, CAN, UART, or Ethernet.
  • U.S. Person status is required; additional government authorization or security clearance may apply.

Nice to have

  • Experience integrating analog and digital hardware with firmware.
  • Familiarity with missile systems, defense technology, or aerospace components.
  • Interest in startup environments and high-impact projects.
