VP, Commercial Surety

Location: New York, New York, with full-time remote work available within the lower 48 U.S. states; frequent travel required.

Salary: $207,750–$346,250 annually.

What you will do

• Lead the Commercial Surety business and execute strategies for profitable growth, market expansion, and competitive advantage.
• Set underwriting philosophy, risk appetite, authority structures, governance frameworks, and portfolio management practices.
• Oversee portfolio performance, capacity utilization, emerging risk assessment, pricing, risk selection, and profitability.
• Manage relationships with brokers, agencies, producers, reinsurance partners, and executive stakeholders.
• Direct product development, policy form enhancements, rate adequacy initiatives, and regulatory filings.
• Sponsor underwriting technology, workflow optimization, predictive modeling, analytics, and business transformation initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in risk management, insurance, finance, business administration, accounting, economics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 15 years of underwriting, marketing, or leadership experience in the surety bond marketplace.
• Significant experience leading Commercial Surety underwriting operations with responsibility for profitability, growth, and portfolio performance.
• Experience with complex surety programs, significant underwriting authority, reinsurance relationships, treaty negotiations, product development, pricing, and regulatory filings.
• Experience leading geographically dispersed or national/multi-regional underwriting teams and developing underwriting leaders.
• Strong broker and agency relationships throughout the United States, executive communication skills, financial acumen, and strategic decision-making ability.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in business administration, finance, risk management, economics, or a related discipline.
• Completion of CPCU and AFSB designations.
