AVP, Insurance Reserving Actuary

Location: Hybrid role based in Warren, New Jersey, United States

Salary: $177,000–$255,000 annually

What you will do

• Lead quarterly and annual loss and loss adjustment expense reserve analyses across Property & Casualty lines.
• Evaluate reserve adequacy, loss development, large losses, severity and frequency trends, tail factors, exposure changes, and reserve uncertainty.
• Prepare reserve positions, actuarial exhibits, reserve reviews, memoranda, management presentations, and reporting materials.
• Partner with Finance, Claims, Underwriting, Pricing, Reinsurance, and Enterprise Risk Management on reserve trends, profitability, and emerging risks.
• Support statutory, GAAP, management, audit, regulatory, and reinsurance reserving requirements.
• Improve reserving methodologies, automation, data validation, reporting tools, and actuarial technology while mentoring actuarial staff.

Requirements

• ACAS designation or equivalent actuarial expertise.
• 10+ years of actuarial experience, including significant Property & Casualty reserving experience.
• Strong understanding of U.S. Property & Casualty reserving methodologies, regulatory requirements, and actuarial standards.
• Experience with commercial and/or personal lines insurance portfolios and complex reserve indications.
• Advanced proficiency with Excel and reserving tools such as ResQ, Arius, SAS, R, or equivalent software.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.

Nice to have

• FCAS designation.
• Experience with reinsurance structures, ceded reserving, and reinsurance accounting.
• Programming and automation experience with Python, SQL, VBA, Power BI, R, or similar technologies.
• Leadership, supervisory, project management, or reserving transformation experience.
