Staff Database Engineer II (MySQL/PostgreSQL)

Location: Remote for candidates in Poland; Central European Time (CET) hours.

Compensation: 9,400–11,800 USD per month, B2B.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain secure, reliable, and scalable database schemas and storage systems.
• Optimize MySQL and PostgreSQL databases for performance, stability, security, and efficient resource use.
• Develop scaling strategies using replication, partitioning, and sharding.
• Partner with engineering teams on schema design, queries, migrations, integrations, and architecture reviews.
• Monitor and troubleshoot production databases, analyze incidents, identify root causes, and implement durable corrective solutions.
• Support disaster recovery, data classification, software upgrades, ETL, security, compliance, observability, backup, and recovery initiatives.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience designing, implementing, and managing relational databases in complex production environments.
• Deep knowledge of database architecture, data modeling, indexing, transactions, constraints, and query optimization.
• Hands-on experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, or comparable relational database technologies.
• Experience with backup and recovery, high availability, replication, partitioning, scaling, database security, access controls, and data protection.
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, systems-thinking, and technical guidance skills.
