Senior Software Engineer - Workflow (PHP/Java)

Location: Remote in Latin America or North America

Annual compensation: $130,000–$175,000 USD for US-based candidates; packages above this range may be considered.

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate customer-facing backend services and product capabilities primarily in PHP and Java.
• Build APIs, data models, integrations, asynchronous processes, and event-driven services using PostgreSQL, Kafka, REST, and gRPC.
• Own technical work end to end, including application code, service boundaries, infrastructure, deployment configuration, and production operation.
• Improve scalability, resilience, performance, security, observability, testing, and maintainability across distributed systems.
• Use Claude Code as the default starting point for implementation while maintaining rigorous review, testing, and production standards.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Infrastructure, Security, and Engineering through architecture decisions, code reviews, mentoring, on-call support, and incident response.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building, shipping, and operating production applications, with strong proficiency in PHP and/or Java.
• Strong fundamentals in maintainable architecture, automated testing, debugging, performance, security, and operational reliability.
• Experience with API design, relational data modeling, PostgreSQL, distributed systems, asynchronous architecture, Kafka or similar systems, REST, and gRPC.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, CI/CD, observability, and production incident response.
• Experience shipping production code with AI coding agents and working in polyglot codebases.
• Business-level English fluency and current authorization to work in the position's location without visa sponsorship are required.
