Backend Engineer (Ranking, AI)

Location: Worldwide, fully remote; choose where you live

Salary: $7,500–$9,000 per month before taxes; base salary also listed as $80,000–$120,000 USD annually, depending on skills, experience, and interview results

What you will do

• Build, deploy, and support high-load, machine-learning-based real-time systems for search and browse experiences.
• Develop and update ranking functionality with technical and non-technical business partners.
• Develop the internal Ranking Platform for data scientists and machine learning engineers.
• Optimize ranking services to process requests faster.
• Improve feature signal delivery and retrieval for machine learning model inference.
• Communicate with stakeholders within and outside the Ranking team.

Requirements

• Experience designing, developing, and maintaining high-load distributed real-time cloud services.
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools such as CloudFormation or Terraform.
• Hands-on experience setting up and improving CI/CD pipelines.
• Proficiency in Python; experience with C, Rust, or Go is a plus.
• Experience with server-side web service development, API design, NoSQL and relational databases, distributed systems, and caching.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP and excellent English communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with MLOps, including delivering, loading, and serving machine learning models and related infrastructure.
• Experience with compiled languages such as C, Rust, or Go.
