Director, Developer Experience, Simplii Technology (AI)

Location: Toronto, ON; hybrid arrangement with 1–3 days per week on-site at Toronto-81 Bay

What you will do

• Set the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Simplii’s AI-native software development lifecycle.
• Build and lead a developer experience team focused on CI/CD, internal AI infrastructure, developer workflows, and engineering productivity.
• Govern the selection, adoption, measurement, cost management, and retirement of AI tools used in engineering.
• Recruit, mentor, and grow a founding team of senior and staff-level engineers to approximately twelve members within eighteen months.
• Define collaboration models with engineering, security, risk, compliance, FinOps, and data teams.
• Own metrics including cycle time, deployment frequency, change failure rate, developer satisfaction, AI-tool adoption, and AI cost per active developer.

Requirements

• At least twelve years of software engineering experience, including five or more years leading engineering teams or organizations.
• At least five years of hands-on experience with Python, TypeScript, Go, Java, Azure, AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, GitHub, GitHub Actions, and CI/CD platforms.
• Deep experience with coding assistants, agent frameworks, evaluation harnesses, retrieval/RAG, vector databases, Model Context Protocol, observability, and FinOps tooling.
• Proven experience building or scaling developer experience, platform engineering, or productivity functions in complex environments.
• Experience recruiting and retaining senior and staff-level engineers, with strong written communication and strategic leadership skills.
• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada and hold a valid work or study permit where applicable.

Nice to have

• Experience working in a federally regulated financial institution.
• Knowledge of OSFI E-23, B-10, B-13, AIDA, and PIPEDA requirements.
• Experience representing engineering organizations through speaking engagements, partner conversations, or industry forums.
