Senior Research Associate (Imaging Mass Cytometry)

Texas A&M University hosts the Texas A&M Institute for Genome Sciences and Society and the Preclinical and Phenotyping Core, supporting genome research, bioinformatics, and advanced research services.

What you will do

• Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, calibrate, and perform preventive maintenance on the Hyperion Imaging Mass Cytometer and other assigned core instrumentation.
• Design and conduct experiments, develop and validate laboratory protocols, and support investigator-initiated research projects and core facility services.
• Collect, analyze, interpret, and document experimental data using appropriate software and statistical methods.
• Train faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows, and students on instrument operation, workflows, laboratory policies, and safety procedures.
• Provide user consultation, troubleshooting, scheduling, quality control, vendor coordination, and technical support.
• Contribute to assays, publications, technical reports, grant proposals, equipment planning, inventory management, and facility administration.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, biomedical sciences, engineering, or a related field.
• At least four years of relevant research or core facility experience, including operation and maintenance of advanced analytical, imaging, or mass spectrometry instrumentation.
• Strong troubleshooting, organizational, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently, support multiple investigators, manage competing priorities, and collaborate in a shared research environment.
• Attention to detail and familiarity with laboratory or technical equipment and applicable software.
• Up to 2% or more travel may be required, along with occasional work outside normal office hours or on weekends.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in a related field.
• Experience with Hyperion Imaging Mass Cytometry, imaging mass spectrometry, or CyTOF technologies.
• Experience in a university core facility or shared research resource, including SOP development, user training, and fee-for-service operations.
• Familiarity with tissue preparation, immunohistochemistry, antibody panel development, IMC data processing, and image analysis software.
