High School Athletic Director

Salary: $59,000–$80,000 per year; most qualified candidates receive $59,000–$63,000.

What you will do

• Lead the high school athletic department and align its mission with the school’s academic goals.
• Monitor student-athlete academic progress and coordinate support with coaches, teachers, special education coordinators, social workers, and families.
• Recruit, develop, evaluate, and retain coaching staff while building a respectful and collaborative department culture.
• Manage athletic budgets, fundraising, facilities, vendors, transportation, competition schedules, and event operations.
• Maintain eligibility records, coach certifications, safety plans, required medical paperwork, and compliance with state, conference, district, and school regulations.
• Develop the program’s website and social media presence and create pathways to collegiate athletic opportunities.

Requirements

• Valid state Athletic Director certification or administrative credential, or eligibility to obtain one.
• Required state coaching and CPR/AED certifications.
• Prior experience in athletic administration, head coaching, or school leadership.
• Demonstrated success in budget management, event operations, and team management.
• Experience supporting diverse student populations and working with IEP, 504, and ELL support teams.
• Strong written and oral communication, organization, conflict resolution, scheduling, and media-tool skills.
