PhD Researcher, HCI & Visualization Research

Location: Toronto, Canada. Candidates must be based in Canada or the United States. The 16-week internship supports office, remote, and hybrid work based on business and team needs.

What you will do

• Agree on and drive an HCI or data visualization research project with research mentors.
• Develop software prototypes, algorithms, and experimental concepts.
• Conduct literature reviews, requirements gathering, usability studies, interviews, surveys, and other research evaluations.
• Design experiments and analyze human performance, cognition, research findings, and prototype results.
• Make recommendations that can influence hirify.global products and business initiatives.
• Author a full research paper, produce a research video, and present findings internally and externally.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science or a related field, specializing in Human-Computer Interaction, with at least one academic term remaining after the internship.
• Peer-reviewed publications on interactive technologies in international venues.
• Very strong technical skills in building software prototypes.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
• Must be based in Canada or the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience with generative AI tools and frameworks such as GPT, Llama, Stable Diffusion, or ComfyUI.
• Experience with web development, React, Next.js, Node, or Flask.
• Experience with hardware modules, AR/VR equipment, 3D graphics, Unity, or Unreal Engine.
• Experience with experimental design, data analysis, and rapid prototyping.
• Ability to resolve conflicting requirements and communicate effectively across teams.
