Senior Security Research Engineer, SONAR (Malware Research)

What you will do

• Reverse engineer previously undocumented, obfuscated, and packed malware across Windows, macOS, and Linux.
• Analyze endpoint telemetry to identify threats, build campaign context, and support mitigation across large-scale data systems.
• Author detection signatures and build automation and AI-assisted workflows for security investigations.
• Publish research, tools, and detection artifacts through hirify.global Security Labs, GitHub, and industry conferences.
• Collaborate with threat intelligence and detection engineering teams to ship rules, models, and protections.
• Lead long-running investigations, contribute to technical direction, review work, and mentor researchers.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional experience in malware reverse engineering and adversary research across multiple executable formats and architectures.
• Strong Python development skills for research tooling and automation, with the ability to read C and C++.
• Experience writing and hunting with YARA signatures at scale.
• Working knowledge of Windows and Linux internals, HTTP, TLS, and applied cryptography.
• Ability to produce clear technical writing and public security analysis.
• Role availability is limited to Spain, Canada, Ireland, Norway, Poland, the United Kingdom, or the United States.

Nice to have

• Vulnerability research, novel technique discovery, and responsible disclosure experience.
• Participation in CTFs such as FLARE-ON or NetWars.
• Open-source security tooling, conference speaking, or an established publication record.
• Attribution tradecraft, MISP or OpenCTI experience, behavioral detection engineering, or machine learning for malware classification.
• Familiarity with hirify.globalsearch, Kibana, and hirify.global Security.
