Safety Systems Software Architect (C++)

Location: Onsite in Irving, Texas, United States, five days a week. Travel of up to 30% may be required. Relocation assistance and visa sponsorship are not available.

Salary: $128,470–$208,770 per year

What you will do

• Define and lead software architecture for operator safety, human-machine interaction, supervisory control, and safe-state management.
• Translate safety goals, system requirements, hazard analyses, and operational constraints into architecture, interface contracts, safety mechanisms, and verification strategies.
• Lead trade-off decisions involving real-time performance, determinism, fault containment, diagnostics, redundancy, graceful degradation, and maintainability.
• Integrate safety considerations with systems engineering, functional safety, cybersecurity, controls, perception, positioning, validation, and product teams.
• Guide C++ software design patterns, reusable safety components, middleware interfaces, and embedded or edge-computing integrations.
• Troubleshoot complex behavior across simulation, bench, machine, and production environments while mentoring engineers and communicating architecture decisions.

Requirements

• Expert-level C++ experience in embedded, real-time, or safety-critical software systems.
• Experience owning architecture for major software products, safety systems, autonomy systems, or distributed embedded platforms.
• Knowledge of deterministic behavior, testability, fault detection and isolation, recovery mechanisms, requirements traceability, documentation, debugging, profiling, and static analysis.
• Working knowledge of functional safety practices, hazard analysis, risk assessment, safety requirements decomposition, and verification expectations.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or commensurate industry experience.
• Ability to work onsite in Irving, Texas, five days per week; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with operator safety, human-machine interaction, remote or autonomous operation, safe intervention, perception integration, positioning, controls, or supervisory safety functions.
• Experience with monitoring, plausibility checks, diagnostics, redundancy management, fault containment, degraded operation, and safe-state transitions.
• Experience with presence detection, proximity sensing, cameras, radar, LIDAR, GNSS/GPS, inertial sensors, or other perception and positioning inputs.
• Experience with real-time controllers, embedded Linux, edge computing, robotics middleware, simulation, or hardware-in-the-loop validation.
• Background in construction, mining, off-highway, automotive, aerospace, industrial automation, or other regulated safety-critical industries.
