Senior Software Architect (Defense)

Location: Onsite in El Segundo, California, United States. U.S. citizenship is required, and the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance is required.

Salary: $121,000–$151,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Provide software systems engineering and integration leadership for secure DoD applications supporting mission planning and operations.
• Act as the technical integrator across Government, Space Force, DoD, and prime-contractor software teams.
• Define and manage interface requirements, message and data specifications, system constraints, and integration priorities.
• Plan and oversee software integration in air-gapped, classified, and other restricted operating environments.
• Lead integration verification strategy, including test approaches, exit criteria, defect triage, and readiness recommendations.
• Prepare technical recommendations, risk assessments, decision packages, and guidance for stakeholders while mentoring engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, systems engineering, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in software systems engineering or software integration.
• Experience with requirements decomposition, architecture definition, interface specifications, verification strategy, and integration oversight.
• Knowledge of secure software development, service-oriented architectures, microservices, secure APIs, cybersecurity processes, RMF, and ATO-related artifacts.
• Ability to coordinate across software, systems, cybersecurity, Government, and prime-contractor teams.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance are required.

Nice to have

• Experience with DoD networks, classified environments, mission systems, or DoD-aligned DevSecOps frameworks.
• Knowledge of STIG hardening, security controls, vulnerability management, and disconnected-network deployments.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS GovCloud, or Azure Government.
• Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, Agile methodologies, ICDs, systems-of-systems engineering, or CSEP, ESEP, PMI, or PMP certifications.
• Active DoD Secret clearance or higher.
