Staff Engineer, Mission Systems Software (Aerospace)

Salary: $160,000–$290,000 per year; Dallas range: $160,000–$240,000; Seattle range: $190,000–$290,000

What you will do

• Design and maintain end-to-end software architectures for safety- and mission-critical real-time mission-computing systems.
• Architect deterministic performance across scheduling, latency, synchronization, resource utilization, distributed processing, and CPU/GPU/accelerator allocation.
• Define architecture views, interfaces, data flows, deployment models, timing diagrams, resource budgets, trade studies, and technical decisions.
• Integrate sensors, effectors, communications, navigation, autonomy, mission management, command-and-control, and vehicle services with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Design resilience and assurance capabilities, including fault isolation, redundancy, graceful degradation, recovery, health monitoring, cybersecurity, and requirements traceability.
• Plan and execute verification across HIL/SIL laboratories, simulations, test benches, flight-test environments, and deployed systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, systems engineering, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical field.
• At least 8 years of professional software-engineering experience, including at least 3 years in software architecture, systems architecture, or technical leadership.
• Experience with embedded, distributed, real-time, safety-critical, or mission-critical software systems.
• Proficiency in C, C++, Rust, or another strongly typed systems-programming language, plus experience with RTOSs, middleware, IPC, networking, and data distribution.
• Experience integrating software with hardware and mission-system components, and supporting requirements, design reviews, implementation, integration, verification, testing, and deployment.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance; U.S. citizenship may be required for clearance eligibility.

Nice to have

• Experience with autonomous aircraft, unmanned aircraft systems, avionics, robotics, aerospace, or defense platforms.
• Knowledge of A-GRA, AMS-GRA, OMS, UCI, FACE, or other open-mission-system standards.
• Experience with airworthiness, safety-assurance, or certification standards such as DO-178C, DO-254, and ARP4754A.
• Experience with heterogeneous CPU/GPU/FPGA computing, publish/subscribe middleware, precision timing, or distributed time synchronization.
• Active or previously held U.S. Department of Defense Secret clearance.
