Lab Automation & AI Engineering Co-Op

Location: Onsite in Billerica, Massachusetts, for the full Spring term

Salary: $20–$30 per hour, depending on overall skills

What you will do

• Automate manual laboratory workflows, including data processing, quality-control review, and report generation.
• Develop and test Python scripts and tools for data analysis, cleanup, and workflow automation.
• Prototype and evaluate AI-assisted tools, including large language models and AI agents, for laboratory applications.
• Help connect instrument data with laboratory systems such as LIMS and reduce manual Excel and CSV handling.
• Document workflows, assumptions, and usage instructions while gathering requirements and improving tools with laboratory staff feedback.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
• Programming ability in Python or a similar language for data analysis or automation.
• Familiarity with structured data, including Excel, CSV files, and databases.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, communication skills, and the ability to work with non-technical users.
• Experience or coursework related to laboratory operations, analytical chemistry, quality assurance, APIs, data pipelines, or workflow automation.
• Available for 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from January through June, and able to work onsite in Billerica for the full term.

Nice to have

• Exposure to AI tools, large language models, or AI agent frameworks.
• Expected graduation in Spring 2027 or Spring 2028.
