Backend Engineering Team Lead (Cybersecurity)

What you will do

• Establish and lead a new backend engineering team responsible for the Integration Layer, NSI, Web and SSL Server Survey, and Spam products.
• Evaluate products with Product and Design colleagues, identify immediate improvements, and contribute to long-term product strategy.
• Prioritise, refine, and sequence engineering work while retaining approximately 30–50% of time for hands-on development.
• Design and implement performant systems and services, including modernisation of legacy platforms and development of new products.
• Maintain high engineering standards through code quality, test-driven development, and continuous integration and delivery.
• Interview and hire engineers while building a high-performing team and a culture of continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Strong engineering leadership, communication, problem-solving, prioritisation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience across Go, OpenSearch, MongoDB, AWS technologies, and machine learning tools and frameworks.
• Experience shaping product strategy with Product Managers and Product Owners and translating customer and business needs into technical solutions.
• Demonstrable experience taking product opportunities from concept through production and understanding legacy codebases through reverse engineering.
• Experience interviewing and hiring engineers and managing engineers at different career stages.
• Commercial awareness and the ability to modernise existing products and contribute to product commercialisation.

• Perl experience.
• Strong Go development experience in technology modernisation or uplift projects.
• Experience with generative AI technologies and applying them to improve customer experiences.
• Practical experience managing engineers from recent graduates to seasoned professionals.
