Waihi Summer Internship – Environmental Monitoring (WNP) (Environmental Monitoring): Supporting environmental monitoring for the Waihi North Project through flow gauging research, hydrology and ecology monitoring, telemetry upgrades, and groundwater network development with an accent on baseline data collection and regulatory compliance. Focus on conducting field-based monitoring, developing biodiversity and herpetofauna programmes, and improving environmental monitoring efficiency at an operating gold mine.
Location: On-site at the Waihi Operation in Waihi, New Zealand. The internship runs approximately from mid-November 2026 through mid-February 2027, with a 9-day fortnight roster and working hours from 7:30am to 5:00pm.

What you will do
- Support the Waihi North Project environmental monitoring programme through flow gauging, hydrology, hydrogeology, and ecology activities.
- Conduct field-based monitoring across Wharekirauponga, Willows, the Access Tunnel Corridor, and TSF3.
- Lead a flow gauging research project and collect baseline hydrological data.
- Support telemetry upgrades and the development of groundwater and ecological monitoring networks.
- Deliver biodiversity and herpetofauna surveys and assist with environmental inspections.
- Present internship experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team.
Requirements
- Unrestricted New Zealand working rights are required.
- Availability from mid-November 2026 through mid-February 2027 is required.
- Be in the second-last or final year of a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management or Environmental Science, majoring in Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Ecology, or Biological Science.
- Strong academic performance and a genuine interest in the chosen environmental field.
- Full Class 1 driver’s licence; the ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred.
- Effective communication, interpersonal, teamwork, independent-working, and collaborative skills.
