Machine Learning Engineer (Payroll)

Location: USA, CA, Pleasanton. Hybrid Flex Work requires spending at least 50% of each quarter in the office or in the field with customers, prospects, and partners.

Base salary: $160,000–$240,000 USD annually for the primary location; additional US locations have a base range of $136,200–$240,000 USD annually. The role may also include bonus or commission eligibility and annual refresh stock grants.

What you will do

• Develop data and AI-driven solutions for enterprise payroll products.
• Explore, prepare, and transform large-scale HR and Payroll datasets for machine learning use cases.
• Design, build, evaluate, and improve machine learning models, prompts, and frameworks.
• Apply deep learning, natural language processing, generative AI, and AI agent approaches to payroll challenges.
• Partner with product managers, software engineers, and data scientists to bring applied machine learning capabilities from concept through production.
• Support scalable, reliable, high-quality, and responsible model development practices.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as part of a data science, machine learning, or software development team.
• 3+ years of experience using Python and machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar tools.
• 3+ years of experience working with large-scale datasets, including data modeling, feature development, or data transformation.
• 3+ years of experience building, evaluating, or productizing machine learning models or algorithms.
• Experience with model evaluation, deployment considerations, monitoring, feature engineering, experimentation, and performance analysis.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts and model behavior to technical and non-technical partners and collaborate across product and engineering teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with distributed training, model hosting, or multi-agent AI systems.
• Experience with model-based design concepts.
• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
• Interest in learning HR and Payroll data, processes, and customer needs.
