Senior Machine Learning Engineer (AI)

Location: DC-Washington-TWP Headquarters, United States. On-site five days a week, with limited exceptions for newsgathering and business travel.

Salary: $119,700–$199,300 annual, plus potential bonus or incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Design, build, deploy, and operate production ML systems for generative AI, search, Revenue Science, personalization, and intelligent discovery.
• Translate research models and prototypes into scalable, reliable, and maintainable production systems.
• Build high-throughput, low-latency ranking, retrieval, recommendation, and real-time personalization services.
• Evolve reusable ML platform capabilities for training, feature generation, experimentation, deployment, inference, versioning, and monitoring.
• Optimize CPU and GPU inference for LLMs, embedding models, rerankers, and ranking models using batching, caching, quantization, distillation, and hardware-aware optimization.
• Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, system design, mentoring, observability, and AI/ML platform roadmap development.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in computer science, computer engineering, machine learning, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of experience in machine learning engineering, software engineering, or large-scale production ML systems.
• Strong Python programming skills and experience with a production language such as C++, Java, Go, Scala, or Rust.
• Experience with PyTorch or another modern ML framework and with end-to-end model training, deployment, inference, monitoring, and improvement.
• Strong knowledge of software engineering, distributed systems, low-latency inference, CPU/GPU serving, performance optimization, and system design.
• Experience with search, retrieval, ranking, recommendation, GenAI, Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, cloud platforms, distributed data technologies, and infrastructure as code.
