Principal Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; onsite at the Crossman Service Building

Salary: $143,000–$286,000 per year, plus performance-based bonuses and possible stock compensation.

What you will do

• Lead the architecture and delivery of complex, scalable, high-performance, and secure software systems.
• Set technical direction, coding standards, design patterns, and engineering practices across the organization.
• Lead discovery phases for major initiatives, defining scope, milestones, and architectural decisions.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and hands-on technical guidance.
• Collaborate with Business, Product, UX, QA, and DevOps stakeholders to translate complex needs into technical solutions.
• Deliver reliable software using unit testing, continuous integration, technical documentation, and operational excellence practices.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software development experience focused on large-scale distributed systems, or the stated minimum qualification of a bachelor's degree plus 5 years of software engineering experience or 7 years of relevant experience.
• Proven architecture experience with data-backed services, high-scale applications, and end-to-end delivery.
• Advanced knowledge of distributed systems, design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
• Full-stack proficiency with React, iOS, Android, Node.js, and Java.
• Strong API development skills with Node.js, GraphQL, and RESTful services, plus familiarity with Azure or GCP.
• Must work onsite in Sunnyvale, California, United States.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related field.
• Experience implementing WCAG 2.2 AA standards, using assistive technologies, and building inclusive digital experiences.
