Manager, Applied AI, Advanced Informatics

What you will do

• Frame clinical and business informatics challenges as well-scoped AI/ML problems with measurable success criteria.
• Design and build data ingestion, feature engineering, training, and evaluation pipelines with production engineering partners.
• Run experiments, benchmarks, and ablation studies to assess model performance and guide modeling decisions.
• Collaborate with clinical informatics, data engineering, and ML engineering teams to integrate models into informatics workflows.
• Apply foundation models, LLMs, and retrieval-augmented generation to biomedical and health data.
• Document research findings and explain model behavior, limitations, and performance to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, machine learning, data science, biomedical informatics, statistics, or a related field; a Master's degree or Ph.D. is strongly preferred.
• 4–6 years of progressive experience in applied AI/ML, with the ability to independently develop and evaluate models; relevant Ph.D. research experience may be considered.
• Knowledge of supervised, unsupervised, and self-supervised learning, deep neural networks, and modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Strong Python skills with scikit-learn, HuggingFace Transformers, pandas, and NumPy, plus experience with NLP or multimodal models, LLM fine-tuning, or prompt engineering.
• Experience with experiment tracking, model versioning, reproducible research, cloud ML infrastructure, MLOps, CI/CD for ML, or model observability.
• Experience with health or life sciences data and familiarity with medical terminologies, ontologies, privacy-preserving ML, federated learning, or regulated data-use agreements.

Nice to have

• Published work or open-source contributions in applied ML, NLP, or computational biomedicine.
• Experience with EHR/EMR, claims, clinical notes, genomic, or imaging data.
• Familiarity with SNOMED CT, ICD-10/11, LOINC, RxNorm, or OMOP CDM.
