Senior Cloud Platform Engineer (Cloud/Kubernetes)

Location: Hybrid position based in San Diego or San Mateo, California; Dallas, Texas; the Seattle-Tacoma area, Washington; Washington, D.C.; or Boston, Massachusetts.

Salary: $141,000–$212,000 per year, plus bonus, benefits, and equity for regular employees.

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate scalable platform infrastructure across Azure, AWS, private cloud, and hybrid-cloud environments.
• Develop reusable infrastructure-as-code modules, automation frameworks, self-service capabilities, and standardized paved paths for engineering teams.
• Build and maintain container and Kubernetes platforms, including deployment automation, configuration management, observability, and lifecycle management.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, logging, alerting, security, reliability, performance, and cost efficiency.
• Lead technical initiatives from design through production operations, troubleshoot complex integration issues, and conduct root-cause analysis.
• Provide technical guidance, maintain architecture and operational documentation, and participate in on-call rotation and scheduled after-hours maintenance.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or a related field.
• Production infrastructure experience with Azure, AWS, or comparable public cloud environments.
• Strong experience with Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, containerized workloads, and infrastructure automation.
• Proficiency in Python, Go, or another programming language used for platform tooling.
• Experience with CI/CD, self-service infrastructure, observability, Linux administration, cloud networking, platform security, identity and access management, and vulnerability remediation.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience; strong communication, documentation, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with Azure Government, AWS GovCloud, regulated, classified, government, commercial, or air-gapped cloud environments.
• Experience with GitOps, Helm, policy as code, secrets management, service catalogs, or internal developer portals.
• Knowledge of private cloud and virtualization platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, or KVM.
• Experience with SLI/SLO definition, incident response, reliability improvements, hybrid-cloud architectures, or on-premises infrastructure.
• Experience in aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or other regulated environments, plus relevant cloud, Kubernetes, Terraform, or platform-engineering certifications.
