Additive Manufacturing Intern (Aerospace): Applying engineering and additive manufacturing concepts to real rocket hardware challenges for Electron, Neutron, and Space Systems programs with an accent on metal additive manufacturing, CAD/CAM modeling, and engineering collaboration. Focus on developing technical skills through mentor-led projects, solving manufacturing challenges, and collaborating across teams in a fast-paced aerospace environment.
Location: Long Beach, California, United States; full-time, on-site for at least 12 consecutive weeks beginning January, February, or March 2027
Salary: $28 USD per hour

What you will do
- Work with a mentor and department employees to apply engineering knowledge and develop technical and professional skills.
- Support additive manufacturing activities for Electron, Neutron, and Space Systems programs.
- Apply engineering and industry concepts to solve real challenges in a fast-paced environment.
- Provide progress updates through regular one-to-one meetings with mentors and supervisors.
- Participate in technical talks and professional networking events.
Requirements
- Be enrolled in a bachelor's, master's, or doctorate program in engineering, physics, or mathematics.
- Have at least one semester of study remaining after the internship.
- Have a GPA of at least 3.0.
- Have at least 3 months of applied engineering experience through an internship, laboratory work, or personal/team projects.
- Be able to work full-time on-site in Long Beach for a minimum of 12 consecutive weeks.
- For US office work, meet applicable ITAR eligibility requirements, including US citizenship, lawful permanent residence, qualifying refugee or asylee status, or eligibility to obtain the required authorization.
Nice to have
- GPA of 3.5 or above.
- At least 6 months of applied engineering experience.
- Exposure to metal additive manufacturing and 3D printing.
- CAD/CAM modeling experience with Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or similar software.
- Finite Element Analysis experience.
