Associate Attorney (Civil Defense Litigation)

Location: Jersey City, New Jersey. Active New Jersey Bar license required; remote, hybrid, and onsite work options are available.

Salary: $100,000–$160,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. Annual billable-hours bonus eligibility is also available.

Tyson & Mendes is a growing civil defense law firm handling complex litigation and investing in attorney development, trial training, and modern legal technology.

What you will do

• Develop case strategies for complex, high-exposure civil defense matters.
• Manage discovery, depositions, substantive motion practice, expert work, mediation, witness preparation, and trial preparation.
• Independently manage court appearances, depositions, motions, trials, and a full caseload from discovery through trial.
• Communicate professionally with clients and build relationships with existing and prospective clients.
• Collaborate with attorneys and staff and mentor junior attorneys.

Requirements

• Active New Jersey Bar license and willingness to practice in New Jersey.
• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
• 1–8 years of solid litigation experience, including case strategy, depositions, and trial preparation.
• Ability to independently manage a full caseload from discovery through trial.
• Familiarity with litigation timekeeping and billing systems.
• Strong critical thinking, writing, communication, problem-solving, judgment, and professionalism; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Nice to have

• Insurance defense experience, including familiarity with carrier relationships and billing requirements.
