Attorney (Insurance Defense)

Location: Hybrid role in Jericho, New York; time in the office is required. Travel to job-related activities is an essential function, and irregular hours may be required.

Potential starting salary: $133,750–$180,000 per year, based on skills, background, and experience. Potential yearly incentive pay is up to 24% of base salary.

What you will do

• Handle insurance defense litigation and other legal assignments under Law Department guidelines.
• Own litigation files and develop case strategy through the litigation process.
• Prepare and summarize reports for legal proceedings.
• Attend trials, mediations, depositions, hearings, and other litigation events.
• Meet with clients and collaborate with attorneys and support staff.

Requirements

• Prior insurance defense litigation and trial experience.
• Experience in insurance defense, medical malpractice, personal injury, or workers’ compensation litigation is preferred.
• Knowledge of local and state discovery rules, trial procedures, and applicable substantive law.
• Trial, mediation, deposition, file ownership, and effective written and oral communication skills.
• Working knowledge of case management and document storage systems, with the ability to manage electronic case files.
• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school, an active New York law license, and good standing with the New York State Bar are required. Applicants must already be eligible to work lawfully in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.
