Data Engineer Intern (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid at the downtown Chicago headquarters, with in-office work twice per week. Candidates must be local or able to relocate independently. Internship runs from May to August 2027; 40 hours per week.

What you will do

• Manage and optimize relational databases including Postgres and MS SQL Server.
• Build and monitor data pipelines supporting Business Intelligence and Data Science teams.
• Support the setup and scaling of the Snowflake, Fivetran, and DBT data warehouse stack.
• Contribute to query, table, and database performance tuning.
• Establish monitoring and alerting for production data systems and gain hands-on experience with ELT practices in AWS.
• Write automated data warehouse model tests and support data quality improvements.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
• Understanding of relational databases and SQL fundamentals.
• Familiarity with row-based and column-based storage concepts in data warehousing.
• Interest in ELT processes and data modeling, with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Clear communication skills and eagerness to learn from experienced data engineers.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Experience with Python or Ruby for automation or scripting.
• Exposure to Snowflake, DBT, Fivetran, Terraform, or other infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Interest in automated testing and data quality practices.
