Manufacturing Assembly Process Engineer II (Automotive Manufacturing)

Location: Portland, Oregon, US; hybrid schedule with 4 days per week in-office and 1 day remote. The position is open to applicants who can work in or relocate to Portland; relocation assistance is not available.

Starting salary: $86,000–$110,000 USD annually, depending on knowledge, skills, and experience.

What you will do

• Develop, implement, and continuously improve assembly manufacturing processes, tooling, layouts, automation, and controls.
• Lead manufacturing projects and workstreams from concept through implementation, including schedules, budgets, risks, resources, and deliverables.
• Perform root cause analysis, evaluate alternatives, and implement sustainable corrective actions for manufacturing issues.
• Support equipment installations, process validations, manufacturing launches, and production issue resolution at plant locations.
• Coordinate with Design Engineering, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Logistics, Facilities, Environmental, suppliers, and plant teams.
• Apply Lean Manufacturing and structured problem-solving methods while standardizing processes and sharing lessons learned across plants.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
• 2–4 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 2 years of experience leading projects with multiple stakeholders and at least 1 year supporting manufacturing launches, process improvements, or capital projects.
• Experience reading and applying engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T, assembly layouts, and manufacturing documentation.
• Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD, CATIA, SolidWorks, or similar tools, plus manufacturing layouts, tooling concepts, workstation designs, and assembly process flows.
• Knowledge of PFMEA, Control Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, manufacturing quality tools, advanced Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.

Nice to have

• Experience in truck, automotive, heavy equipment, or high-volume manufacturing operations.
• Experience with safety-critical processes, torque-controlled fastening systems, tooling, automation, or controls.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
• Spanish language proficiency and experience working with geographically dispersed teams in Mexico and North America.
