Enterprise Crypto Security Engineer (Space Defense)

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California or Colorado Springs, Colorado. Travel is required approximately once monthly.

Salary: $149,400–$186,700 in El Segundo, CA, or $136,400–$170,500 in Colorado Springs, CO.

What you will do

• Develop, integrate, and deliver space and ground cryptographic units for secure military satellite communications.
• Lead trade studies for spacecraft cryptographic units and provide data-driven recommendations to program leadership and customers.
• Define technical designs and interfaces for encryption hardware and firmware, ensuring subsystem compatibility and compliance with mission and cybersecurity standards.
• Oversee verification and validation activities, including test plans, procedures, dry runs, SVTs, TRRs, CDRL reviews, anomaly resolution, and requirements traceability.
• Support Protected Key Management Architecture and cryptographic lifecycle management.
• Represent crypto engineering in technical reviews, collaborate with government and industry partners, and mentor junior and mid-level engineers.

Requirements

• Active TS/SCI clearance is required.
• Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of systems engineering experience, including crypto, cybersecurity, requirements, verification, integration, or testing.
• 7+ years of experience with cryptography, NSA certification processes, and key management processes.
• 5+ years of experience supporting military, Department of Defense, or Intelligence Community space and ground programs.
• Understanding of systems engineering across concept, development, production, operations, and sustainment lifecycle phases.
• Strong technical writing, communication, presentation, and Microsoft Office skills.

Nice to have

• Technical bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, information systems, information technology, or computer science.
• Experience with Jira, Confluence, NSA Key Management Infrastructure, HAIPEs, or cross-domain solutions.
• Certifications such as CISSP, SANS, CEH, INCOSE CSEP or ESEP, or OCSMP.
