Software Engineer Principal (AI)

Location: Onsite in the NYC office, United States; not a remote or hybrid role.

Salary: $206,000–$350,200 per year.

What you will do

• Build and evolve core banking capabilities covering products, accounts, transactions, transfers, journals, balances, interest, workflows, and compliance controls.
• Define reliable APIs, events, and data contracts for a coherent and auditable banking platform.
• Own services throughout their lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, operation, and continuous improvement.
• Diagnose production failures across distributed services, data infrastructure, and event-driven workflows during on-call and incident response.
• Improve observability, alerting, operational controls, recovery procedures, automated testing, CI/CD, deployment safety, and disaster recovery.
• Mentor engineers and use AI-assisted engineering, MCP servers, agent workflows, and automated runbooks where they improve outcomes.

Requirements

• Deep experience designing and building complex distributed systems at scale using a strongly typed, compiled language; Go is preferred.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and Kafka or equivalent streaming platforms.
• Strong understanding of concurrency, consistency, invariants, idempotency, failure modes, and distributed-system trade-offs.
• Experience operating and debugging critical production systems, including observability, reliability engineering, capacity planning, deployment safety, and disaster recovery.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, GitOps, and modern production-engineering practices.
• Ability to explain complex systems clearly, evaluate architectural trade-offs, and take ownership of design, validation, security, and production outcomes.
