Environmental and Radioactive Waste Management Program Manager

Salary: $130,000–$190,000 annually

What you will do

• Build and own the environmental protection and radioactive waste management programs for a uranium enrichment facility.
• Identify federal, state, and local environmental obligations and secure permits, licenses, and registrations for discharges, waste handling, and disposal.
• Establish environmental monitoring systems and procedures for gaseous and liquid effluents.
• Manage radioactive waste from characterization and minimization through safe handling, storage, disposition, and decommissioning planning.
• Review operations and operational changes for potential environmental releases, and verify compliance through inspections and audits.
• Exercise independent authority to halt operations that may risk the environment or public health.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a science or engineering discipline with 8+ years of relevant experience, including 3+ years in a nuclear or radiological setting; or a master’s or doctoral degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, including 3+ years in a nuclear or radiological setting.
• Experience in environmental protection, waste management, or applied health physics.
• Ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance and access authorization.
• Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
• Knowledge of applicable nuclear and environmental standards, including NRC, DOE, 10 CFR Part 20, ICRP, and ANSI requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience at an NRC-licensed facility, DOE site, or national laboratory.
• Professional certification such as REM, CSP, or ASP.
• Experience managing radiological and hazardous waste programs.
• Experience building or managing a small team.
• Experience in a fast-paced, resource-constrained, or startup environment.
