Summer 2027 Internship - Software Engineering (Fusion Energy)

Location: Onsite in San Leandro, CA; Fremont, CA; or Los Lunas, NM. Full-time onsite work is required for at least 12 consecutive weeks beginning between mid-May and mid-June 2027.

Pay range: $30–$48 per hour, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Develop web-based interfaces for system health monitoring, facility configuration, alerts, events, and diagnostics.
• Build backend services that serve real-time and historical facility data.
• Manage configuration, metadata, and system state.
• Integrate UI applications, backend APIs, controls systems, and data pipelines.
• Write maintainable code, participate in code reviews, and help test, debug, and validate software used in live environments.

Requirements

• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; junior, senior, or graduate students are preferred.
• Coursework or experience in software development, web programming, or backend programming.
• Familiarity with at least one of TypeScript, JavaScript, Go, or Python.
• Basic understanding of client-server applications, APIs, data flow, and SQL or NoSQL databases.
• Must be able to work full time onsite for at least 12 consecutive weeks during summer 2027.
• Access to certain technology may require classification as a U.S. Person under U.S. export-control laws.

Nice to have

• Experience with React or other modern UI frameworks, REST or event-based APIs, Git, and collaborative development.
• Interest in industrial systems, automation, controls, data visualization, or real-time systems.
• Exposure to Docker, time-series or telemetry data, CAD software, MATLAB, Python, or Excel.
• At least six months of previous internship, co-op, or academic project experience outside normal coursework.
• GPA of 3.5 or above.
