Director of Data Engineering (AI)

Location: Remote with quarterly in-person strategy meetings

Salary: $165,000–$180,000 annually plus bonus

What you will do

• Set the enterprise data engineering vision, roadmap, architecture, and technical strategy.
• Oversee enterprise data platforms, ETL/ELT pipelines, APIs, integrations, cloud-native services, and Snowflake-based data warehouses.
• Establish standards and governance for data quality, security, scalability, reliability, metadata, compliance, and operational excellence.
• Drive automation, AI-assisted engineering, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, observability, monitoring, disaster recovery, and platform modernization.
• Partner with product, engineering, security, analytics, infrastructure, architecture, and executive leadership to align data investments with business priorities.
• Lead, coach, hire, and develop a high-performing Data Engineering organization and its technical leaders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in data engineering, software engineering, platform engineering, or cloud-native application development.
• 5+ years leading Data Engineering teams, technical leaders, or enterprise data platform initiatives.
• Deep expertise in Python, SQL, ETL/ELT architectures, REST APIs, distributed systems, enterprise data integration, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, AWS, and cloud-native architectures.
• Experience with AI-assisted development, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, observability, automation, Agile delivery, data governance, metadata management, security, compliance, and enterprise architecture.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, strategic planning, organizational development, and executive influence skills.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or relevant cloud, AWS, or Snowflake certifications.
• Experience with enterprise data modernization, cloud transformation, AI-enabled data engineering, machine learning pipelines, or advanced analytics platforms.
• Experience with event-driven architectures, streaming, real-time processing, Terraform, Kubernetes, platform engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering.
• Experience with Azure, Google Cloud Platform, data catalogs, lineage, master data management, or data mesh principles.
• Experience building engineering organizations in a SaaS or technology environment.
