Senior Advanced Structures Engineer (Automotive)

Location: Warren, Michigan, United States; hybrid attendance required at least 3 times per week. Travel required up to 25%. Relocation benefits may be available.

What you will do

• Lead advanced technical work for engine, transmission, battery, and body structural concepts.
• Develop cylinder head, head gasket, engine block, transmission housing, and battery structure designs through the Advanced Technology Work phase.
• Lead complex propulsion structures projects and create manufacturable designs that achieve vehicle structural performance requirements.
• Define structural technologies to assess and advance from Advanced Technology Work to the Balanced Architecture phase.
• Partner with virtual design, development, and validation teams on early structural performance assessment tools.
• Support implementation teams as designs move into sourcing and production launch, while benchmarking innovative technologies and collaborating with suppliers and startups.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience developing engine, transmission, battery, or body structures.
• Experience leading complex technical projects with cross-functional teams and suppliers.
• Experience supporting vehicle programs through launch to SORP and managing multiple projects concurrently.
• Familiarity with structural CAE tools and the ability to define solutions for ambiguous technical problems.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, creative problem-solving, and technical leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Master’s or Doctorate degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• Experience with R&D and advanced engineering body structure teams, forming and joining processes, analytical modeling, or battery and structural component testing.
• Experience with Unigraphics NX, NASTRAN, OptiStruct, LS-DYNA, or other CAD and CAE structural modeling tools.
• DFSS Black Belt certification and experience mentoring teammates.
